Experience the freedom of setting off towards the vast, white horizon.. skis on your feet, your breath in clouds.
From time to time, we (Sarah and Jim Mayer) run our own hut-to-hut ski tours in the mountains behind our Little Red House.
We use nordic back-country skis to traverse the relatively gentle mountainous terrain between Oldervik and Tromso, staying in cosy but basic mountain cabins en-route.
These are friendly and informal tours for tiny groups. If this sounds like fun, please get in touch via our website: www.littleredhouse.co.uk
The mountain cabins in Norway are owned and run by a fantastic organisation called the DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association). They also run guided hut-to-hut ski tours all over Norway – or you can ski independently and simply become a DNT member and use their huts. Have a look at their website: www.turistforeningen.no
Feed-back from Sarah & Jim’s 2010 ski tours:
Highlights: Skiing by moonlight, following ptarmigan tracks, sunshine for the first time, the massive ‘borrower kettle’, digging a rather palatial snow hole (for fun)…. oh and watching reindeer races down Tromso’s high street!
“Dearest Leader! What a fantastic trip. A whole cocktail of experiences all totally different and wonderful. Thank you so much” Martin Spurrier
“A great intro to ski touring…I came back surprised at how fit I was and wanting to go again!” Justine Jones
“Felt very much in safe hands with both of you. Especially in the white out! Jim’s technique and approach to training & guiding is excellent” Jen Payne
“Excellent skiing – Great Fun – Lovely huts – good balance between skiing and relaxation” Lesley Thomson
“The enticing photos in the itinerary whetted my appetite and I was not disappointed” Nick Shipton
“Lovely hospitality and food throughout was top notch, even the luxury of tea in bed… You were very clever and quick to adapt the route to suit the reduced capabilities of three old men.” Esmond White
