“Original, environmentaly responsible holidays in stunning polar places.”
The Polar People was founded by Sarah and Jim Mayer in 2004 with the aim of sharing our passion for the wild places of the Arctic and Antarctic. These are the kind of holidays that we love ourselves:
Outdoor and active, in breathtaking wilderness, with nobody else around. We then squeeze in as many little comforts as we can manage – without spoiling our adventure or the fragile nature!
Over the last 20 years we have met some really inspirational people: people who call the Arctic and Antarctic their ‘home’ and who we are delighted to count as friends. Together we form a network of specialist Polar People, offering a whole range of hand-crafted holidays in the Arctic and Antarctic.
The Polar People is a truly unique polar travel agency. The way it works is that each of our Polar People friends gives us a commission for the guests we send them. We pass part of that commission on to you – so you always get a discount on your holiday by booking through us. We are also able to offer you FREE advice on things like flights, what to pack and how many pairs of socks to wear!
Often we escape from the office to run our own holidays too. Join us this year: Nordic skiing in Arctic Norway and Art in Spitsbergen.
Who are we?
Sarah fell in love with the Arctic on her first expedition to Greenland in 1992 and now her expertise ranges from glacier travel and boating to creating culinary delights with fresh Arctic ingredients. Since marrying Jim in 2003, Sarah has become an enthusiastic convert to the surprising pleasures of skiing up hill with a rucksack on her back – and the beauty of little wooden huts in the wilderness.
Jim ’s first Arctic Expedition was in 1990 and he hasn’t looked back. He leads The Polar People’s ski tours in Norway and guides on expedition voyages to the Arctic and Antarctic. His adventures in cold places have included major expeditions in Greenland, Iceland, Spitsbergen, Northern Sweden and a season in Antarctica with the British Antarctic Survey.
